In 2018, the Orioles have begun a partnership with USA Baseball to provide an introductory level bat-and-ball program, Fun at Bat, to Baltimore City Public Schools in an effort to promote interest in baseball and softball. Beginning in late April, the Baltimore City Public School system will begin to implement the SHAPE America approved baseball-themed physical education program, Fun at Bat, within over 120 elementary and middle schools, impacting over 55,000 Baltimore City youth. As part of the partnership, the Orioles will host a Fun at Bat event at a selected Baltimore City school with a current Orioles player and the Oriole Bird on Friday, April 27 during PLAY BALL Weekend. With help from teachers and staff, the player will lead students through Fun at Bat activities including hitting, throwing, and reading.
